Lavrov and Kerry call for stopping military actions in Karabakh

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry have discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh by phone, the Russian MFA reports.
“The heads of the foreign ministries expressed serous concern about the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh, confirming the urgent call to immediately stop the military actions. It has been agreed to activate the efforts of Russia, U.S., and France as Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group towards contributing to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Lavrov and Kerry condemned the efforts of separate “external players” to whip up the confrontation round Karabakh,” the MFA statement reads.
The conversation took place upon the initiative of the American side.
Defense Army: Armenia side has suffered 20 casualties, 26 being missing and 72 wounded

STEPANAKERT. - As of Monday 11:00 am, the Armenian side has suffered 20 casualties, another 26 being missing and 72 being wounded during the last four days of battles.
Head of the Karabakh Defense Army Operative Division, Colonel Vitali Arustamyan, said the aforementioned at the meeting with journalists in Stepanakert.
According to the colonel, two of the casualties are children, three of them being minors from among civilian population, as reported by Armenian News – NEWS.am special correspondent.
During the battles the Azerbaijani side suffered over 300 casualties, the number of the wounded is being ascertained.
“No Armenian settlement is under Azerbaijani control. In the sections where the enemy managed to crash to the ground, the depth is 200-300 m, there being no settlements. This means that no Armenian settlement is under the enemy’s control,” the Colonel said.
On Monday the enemy went on to increased the types of weapons used, for the first time applying Russian TOS-1 "Solntsepyok", but it missed and wasn’t able to achieve its goals. The Azerbaijani side also tried to use “Kamikaze”drone, but Karabakh Air Defense managed to destroy it.
According to the Colonel, everything started in the early hours of Saturday, when infiltration attempts were made in the northern direction. During the first hours, 1350 shells were launched from “Grad”, this being unprecedented.
As to the military equipment, the Armenian side has lost only seven tanks. The Azerbaijani side has lost eighteen tanks, two helicopters, one item of engineering equipment, three infantry fighting vehicles (IFV), six drones and one BM-21 “Grad” launch vehicle.
President visits Armenian soldiers wounded during hostilities (PHOTOS)

YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Monday paid a visit to the Ministry of Defense Central Clinical Military Hospital in capital city Yerevan.
At the medical center, Sargsyan met with the military servicemen who were wounded in the hostilities around the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact.
The President asked the physicians about the health condition of these soldiers, and expressed his support to these servicemen and wished them a speedy recovery.
The situation at the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone dramatically escalated in the early morning hours on April 2. From regular shootings and frequent sabotage-reconnaissance attempts, Azerbaijan switched to large-scale attacks all along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact, using a variety of weaponry as well as artillery, armored vehicles, and air force. Both sides have suffered casualties.
Russia FM: Karabakh Minsk Group format change is inexpedient

It is not expedient to change the format of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group on the Karabakh conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated the aforementioned, according to RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.
In his words, it is not advisable to change this format because the three Minsk Group Co-Chairs (Russia, US, and France) are the most important mechanism for achieving a resolution to this conflict.
